Computer Masterclasses

The Cedars Admin • 8 November 2013

We were pleased to welcome Dr Dominic Jones to school for the first of several computing masterclasses. The class focused on the fundamentals of how computers work: how numbers are represented, what are the limitations of computers and showing how simple calculations can appear to go horribly wrong. After being furnished with a sure knowl- edge of addition and modulus the class finished with a quick look at a symmetric encryption algorithm that was used by the Romans.

Boys had the opportunity to program in both the C and Python programming languages and run them online.

It was highbrow stuff and the boys were certainly kept on their toes. Dr Jones will be back next half-term for more programming and code breaking!
