We were delighted to hear that our pupil William Awomoyi was elected as Croydon’s first ever Young Mayor on Thursday 15 March.
Croydon is home to more young people than any other London borough and as Croydon Young Mayor, William will represent over 93,500 under-18s. Croydon Young Mayor is elected for one year to represent the views of young people and encourage them to create opportunities around issues that matter to them and their communities.
Headmaster Robert Teague said, “It really is a remarkable achievement especially as William was the youngest of 28 candidates. He won it by campaigning tirelessly, on buses and trams and even making speeches in Croydon town centre. We are extremely proud of him and he will be speaking to the whole school about his experiences in assemblies next week.”
Over 12,000 pupils of secondary school age voted in the election. William is pictured below with the deputy mayor, Shea Williams, and Alisa Flemming, Croydon’s cabinet member for children, young people and learning.
